SO, WHAT’S THIS ABOUT?

Jack Daniels is the cure to all evils.
Sex should be casual and, preferably, anonymous.
Giving a damn is for nurses, philanthropists and suicide hotlines.

Those are the values Mathew Rogers built his adult life on and plans to spend the rest of his days honoring. In his pursuit of happiness, he embarks on a one year journey where he’ll have to prove he can live by his values and rely only on himself.

Four months and thirteen days later, due to a series of unfortunate events, he finds himself in the rickety town of Jolene, Alabama. There, he meets Lexie, a waitress with some serious attitude and values of her own.

Never underestimate the healing power of chocolate chips.
If it walks and talks like a jerk, it’s definitely a jerk. Stay the hell away.
When in doubt, go with a smile and kindness. It goes a long way.

Taken by her beauty and personality, Mathew questions all he’s ever known and, much to his surprise, begins to give a damn about someone else for once in his life. The problem, however, is that Lexie seems to despise him.

Desperate to get his life back but unable to get in his car and drive to the next unplanned destination, Matt stays in Jolene. In the midst of arguments, unlikely friendships, new values and heartbreak, they’ll both try to find a reason to stay.

Since the beginning, two entities have had complete, unquestioned control over Thea: the Earth and God.

But when Thea suddenly figures out that the Earth has trapped her within a forest, she discovers that the only way to set herself free is to break God’s one rule; she must forsake her animal form and become human.

The result is nothing she could ever have expected. Lost within the torrent of human emotions, Thea starts to lose who she is and even begins to fall in love with the one thing she always hated: a hunter.

As her act against God proves more problematic than anticipated, it is only a matter of time before her punishment may prove to be worse than Earth’s entrapment.

Review

What an amazing story! E. V. Fairfall’s book couldn’t have been any more original. The concept was amazing and that was the first thing that grabbed me.

Another element to the story that was wonderfully developed were the characters and setting. It was very vivid and organic that I couldn’t help but instantly connect. Thea was an easy character to like and she never annoyed me. There were also side characters, like Cricket, that you can’t help smile at.

Transformed is a great, easy read that I highly recommend giving a chance! ♥

I love to write just as much as I love to read. I try to read a book per week, which doesn’t always work out, but it’s the thought that counts. Aside from all that I am a huge animal person.

Transformed is my first novel, but it isn’t my first publication; I’ve had several short stories published over the last two years. My main goal as a writer is to explore humanity and to give people something fun to read.

Rating: 3.5 stars ★★★☆

Love at first sight was never so dangerous.

Jack Gunnison has a problem, well, two actually, one is 5’5″ and the other…a Killer.

Jennifer Stewart needs a change after losing her husband and sending her daughter off to college.

Moving to the high country of Colorado to restart her life and, follow her dreams, Jenn gets more than she bargained for when she attracts the eye of a killer.

Together, Jack and Jenn must figure out his identity, before he strikes again.

Mature readers only due to erotic content and language.

“Jesus, what are you doing to me?” He whispered. “Nothing,” I gasped, when his tongue circled my ear. “Baby, if that’s nothing, you’re gonna kill me when it means something.”

This was a sexy, cute, and fast paced read that left me smiling and itching to turn the pages.

❄︎ The Story ❄︎

After her daughter goes off to college and husband dies in an accident, Jennifer decides to move to her dream state of Colorado.
It’s there she runs into the arrogant and bossy Jack Gunnison. He instantly has his eyes on her but Jack isn’t the only one… a killer has also set his sights on Jennifer.

❄︎ The Characters ❄︎

∙Jennifer

“You made time for a woman like Jenn, if you didn’t, someone else would.”

She was one sassy character! She definitely kept Jack on his toes. Although she did cause some very unnecessary drama, for the most part she was an interesting and enjoyable character. I liked how passionate she was about everything she did… her work, her friendships, everything.

∙Jack

Christ, I sound like a goddamned Hallmark card at the thought of possessing her heart. Fuck.

If you’re a fan of Kristen Ashley’s alpha males, the Jack is for you. He could be bossy and demanding and I loved reading about how amused he was when Jennifer didn’t listen to him!

∙The Killer

Wasn’t quite expecting who it turned out to be… definitely caught me by surprise

❄︎ Overall ❄︎

A highly entertaining read that’s perfect for anybody who’s a fan of Kristen Ashley, loves sassy heroines or alpha males!

“You and Barry got something going on I need to know about?”

I looked up at Jack and watched his jaw go tight, as he watched Barry walk away.

“Um, no, we’re just friends. He took me for coffee once when I first moved here, and we bump into each other from time to time.”

“Good, keep it that way; I don’t like to share.”

“Share? I’m not sure I’m ready for any type of relationship, Jack.”

“Babe, you may not be ready, but that’s not going to stop me from changing your mind.” He replied smiling, his rough voice washing over me. Damn. My traitorous heart liked hearing that and started racing. My head told me to run, but I stupidly listened to my heart, and I smiled back at him. (I know, I know, it’s that damn smile.)

“Ok, Jack,” I whispered in reply. Jack’s smile turned to a sexy grin and then his eyes dropped to my lips. I sucked in a breath as his head lowered, his lips gently brushing mine. A warm tingle coursed through my body, as he wrapped both arms around me and crushed me to his chest. We were in public, but I didn’t care.
Jack deepened the kiss, his hand coming up my back and into my hair, securing me deeper into him. Slowly the kiss ended, and he lets me go. I took a wobbly step back and looked up at him. Jack’s brow moved together in reflection, like he was working something out in his head. Then he smiled and my knees got weak.

“Now that’s more like it, boy.” I turned my head to see Lorraine grinning from ear to ear. My face flushed in embarrassment, and Jack just grunted, grabbed my hand, pulled me towards the door, and then mumbled. “You got that right.

Title: In Finn’s Heart

No synopsis available.

• Welcome to Uniquely Portable Magic, Roxie! Tell us about yourself.

Hi! Thanks for having me today! I’m a writer mama who lives in Texas. I write steamy romantic suspense as Roxie Rivera and scorching hot paranormal and sci-fi romance as Lolita Lopez.

• What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

I really enjoyed writing the scene from In Jack’s Arms where Abby realizes that Jack’s love language is showing her how much he loves her instead of just telling her. He’s just drawn her this lovely, steamy bath, brought her a glass of wine and then he’s climbing in with her. She thinks about all the ways he’s always there for her—and all the ways he’ll always be there in the future.

• While you were writing, did you ever feel as if you were one of the characters?

I often feel that way when writing. It’s not uncommon for me to start crying when I’m writing those black moments that happen in every romance novel.

• Which character speaks the loudest, to you?

Hadley, the heroine from the upcoming book In Finn’s Heart, really spoke to me. Our four-year-old daughter has the same heart defect as Hadley so I often found myself wondering what hopes—and fears—she might have in twenty years. It was definitely an emotional experience.

• What’s more important: characters or plot?

In romance, I think characters are paramount. When I pick up a romance novel, I want to feel what the characters feel. I want to take the journey with them—and to do that I have to connect with them. Writing flawed, multi-dimensional characters who feel like real people is the easiest way to make that connection between my books and my readers. If they aren’t invested in the characters, the niftiest plot in the world won’t matter at all because they might not make it beyond the first few chapters, you know?

• What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?

I think it’s hardest to hear that a reader felt let down by a story. I realize readers have so many choices so I always want to deliver a book that blows them away. When I miss that mark, I take note and strive to ensure the next book hits all the reader feel-good spots.

Best compliment? I always enjoy hearing from readers who tell me that one of my books got them through a rough spot. When kiddo was going through her many heart surgeries as a baby, I used to devour stacks of romance novels while in waiting rooms and ICUs. To know that I can give someone the same escape? It’s a really great feeling. ☺

• Any writing rituals?

I like music when I write. Iced tea is good too. And Raisinets!

• If you were to create a slogan for your life, what would it be?

Just keep swimming!

• You have to wear a t-shirt with one word on it for the rest of your life. Which word do you choose?

Happy!

• Any last thoughts for our readers?

Thanks so much for giving the Connolly brothers or my big, sexy Russians a try. ☺

Blog Tour: Playing Pretend by Juliana Haygert

Playing Pretend was an easy, quick, enjoyable read. It was a book that I was able to finish in one sitting.

Being the governor’s daughter, Charlotte has to put on a façade for the world. She can’t appear as anything less than perfect. But one Spring Break where she meets the sweet Mason has her letting her guard down and losing some of her inhibitions.

This was a sweet and sexy romance. Charlotte and Mason have an undeniable chemistry and they were great together. It really touched Charlotte that Mason wasn’t into her for her money. She’s been so used to all these politician’s sons that her parents through her way that someone who genuinely cared for her was a welcome reprieve.
And Mason was the sweetest guy! He quickly steals your heart ♥

We even get some sexy scenes… those were nice 😉

All in all, this was a quick but fun read!

Living in Sin (Escort, #1) by Isabel Lucero

What a great story!

As it’s been mentioned a lot, I want to warn you of the first chapter. For some people, it’s hot and amazing, and they love it! For others, it’s shocking and not for them. However, don’t let it scare you away, it’s not like that the whole way through. Others who were taken aback by it, ended up giving it 5 stars. It is an erotic book though, so there will be adult situations. 😉 (from goodreads)

“Here’s to the people we fuck, here’s to the people who fuck us, if the people we fuck are fucking with us, fuck them and here’s to us.”

All the characters were wonderful. There wasn’t a single one that irritated me or left me feeling meh. Adrienne is a sassy, lovable heroine that left me cheering her on. Now Jace… he was sexy. *fans self* but he also really charming and sweet. And have I mentioned this book is hot? H-O-T. Definitely doesn’t lack in that department!

Living in Sin was well written and enjoyable. Although predictable at times I was still completely into the book.

I would definitely recommend this to those who love great characters and some sexy time 😉
Book description: **This story contains graphic sexual content and strong language. Intended for mature audiences only.**

Jace Jamison is every woman’s fantasy. He’s a mysterious businessman willing to sweep you off your feet, a tattooed bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, and a sexy friend you want to take that next step with. Jace is everything and anything you want him to be. He’s a highly paid escort.

But nobody knows who Jace really is; the man whose dad abandoned him, whose brother was killed, and who had to take care of his mom at a young age. At the age of nineteen, he was living in Sin City, ready for a life away from stress and struggle.

Adrienne has been having a sexual drought since she broke up with her boyfriend. Even then she wasn’t getting fully satisfied. Being an event planner, she’s constantly working at numerous events. Several times she’s seen a man she can only refer to as the God-like creature at her work functions. He’s devastatingly handsome, tall, and has beautiful eyes, but he’s always with a different woman. The last thing she needs is another player in her life.

After a few chance encounters with Jace, her best friend convinces her to just get some good sex out of him and not worry about who she’s seen him with. But what happens when she finds out that he isn’t dating these women because he wants to, but because he’s paid to?

Keeping his job a secret from Adrienne seems easy at first, but when she begins meeting people he knows in his escort life, and they begin getting closer, he knows he has to tell her before someone else does.

When their worlds entwine, and confessions are made, will they be able to work through it? Will she be able to push aside his sins and focus on the good in him? Will Jace get what he’s never had? A woman who wants him despite what he’s done. Or will living in sin cost him what he never knew he wanted?

*An erotic, contemporary romance*
*Book one in a series, but can be read as a standalone.*

About the author:Isabel Lucero is a military wife who has been lucky enough to travel the world, and see some amazing sights. She has been married to her best friend for ten years, and together they have two of the most beautiful children in the world. She and her husband are Junior High Sweethearts, a couple who are truly meant to be together. One day, their love story might make it into a book.
Isabel is the middle name of the author, and Lucero is her maiden name. Together they create her pen name. She was born in a small town in New Mexico, and was more than happy to move far, far away.

She is a collector of high heels and tattoos, and is highly obsessed with both. She owns a crazy, little Miniature Pinscher who thinks he’s a Doberman. His name is Tyson.
Isabel has always been an avid reader, able to devour books in a day or two. With her now focusing on writing, the reading has slowed, but her love for reading is still there.
Something noteworthy is that Isabel loves to hear from her readers. Never hesitate to get in touch. She’s always willing and ready to talk about anything. If you enjoy this book, she encourages you to not only let her know, but let the world know. Goodreads, Amazon, book blogs, groups, etc. She understands that word of mouth is the best form of promotion.

Blog Tour: Finding What Is by Tabitha Vohn

Finding What Is is sad but eye-opening story that’ll stick with you once you finish.

What I loved about this book was that Tabitha Vohn took the typical ‘student-teacher infatuation’ and ‘girl loves best friend’ and put a spin to the story. Something that keeps the reader completely interested in what is going on.

Willie and Professor Shane’s relationship is a slow burn… but eventually turns into something more. He teaches her creative writing class and, as they begin to learn more about each other, discover how they both have an appreciation for paintings and art. They’re drawn together and know it’s forbidden (which makes it all the more sweeter) but despite her attraction to him, Willie feels like she can’t trust him.

She also has another man in her life, Xavier. They both still have strong feelings for each other. When tragedy strikes Willie and she’s left without her mother, Xavier allows her to come live with him… and his girlfriend.

It’s a unique story with depth and captivating plot.

Book description: Willie has always lived an unconventional life. Surrounded by the sensual, ethereal images of her artist-mother, she fantasizes about the half-wolf, half-human, but all-gorgeous face that stares out at her from her mother’s wall, and drinks in her mother’s stories of past lovers and adventures. She shares her home with a man who calls himself “uncle” (who stalks her through the house, naked). Her closest friends are a band of misfits who’ve forged their own way in life-including Xavier, who has carved his name in her soul- and her heart is torn between him and a college professor, a fellow artist who wants more than a student-teacher relationship.

Willie stands on the brink of womanhood poised to follow in her mother’s footsteps, with a gleaming future as an artist looming before her, and a maturity beyond her years that has enabled her to be the protector and caretaker of others, a mender of wounds. But as a devastating illness rips her mother from her life, Willie is left bereft of a home and of a sense of self. Guided only by her instincts, Willie wanders from her Professor’s arms to the home that Xavier shares with his live-in girlfriend Nicole (who insists that they can “share”). Her path becomes a search for peace, for family, for a love that’s real, and for her place in this world.

Finding What Is chronicles the journey that we all must take-to find ourselves, to reconcile our past, and to get back to that place we once called home.

About the author: Tabitha is a pen name. Her creator is a certified bookworm, thanks to the countless fairy tales, Bible stories, and nursery rhymes she was read as a child, and the Gothic, Romantic, and Contemporary novels she enjoys today. She has earned a B.A. in English and a M.A. in Teaching, and currently teaches high school English.

On Writing, Tabitha says, “I strive to write the type of stories that I enjoy reading. Ones that question those blurred lines between love and lust, between good and evil. Ones that make us question human nature while simultaneously seeing the beauty in it as well.”

Blog Tour: Yes, Master by Margaret McHeyzer

“I hate you. You made me hate myself. I’m disgusting.”

If you’re a fan of dar, BDSM erotic novels… well then look no further!

My heart heart just broke for Ryan. Nobody deserves to go through what he did. His pain, his self-loathing and hatred tore at my heart. I wanted to see him happy and let go of everything he was hanging on to.

Stella was a great character!! I loved her spunk and sass. She truly cared for these men in her life and wanted to do everything in her power to help Ryan. She wanted to show him that what happened to him was an injustice and in no way his fault.

Although this is a dark erotic novel, it’s also about Ryan finding himself, of mending what should never have been broken and learning to love himself.

Rating: ★★★★/★★★★★

I startle awake as I leap off the bed and sprawl on the floor.
“Ry!” Mason yells from the other side of the door. I jump up off the floor and swing the bedroom door open.
“You scared the shit out of me, Mason.” I run my hand over my eyes and face trying to wake up. “What do you want, man?” But I’m met with silence. When I look over at Mase, he’s staring at my body. He’s mouth’s open and his eyes are so wide. He rakes his stare down my body, then back up again. He lifts an eyebrow as he ogles me. I look down and notice I’m completely naked. I fell asleep on my bed with just the towel wrapped around me and he scared me with his bashing that now I’m standing before him totally exposed.
He’s not moving away, and neither am I.
“Mason.” I lower my voice as he looks up at me and just stares.
He can see straight through me, totally bare and open, for him to see all my secrets.
“We need to leave in an hour,” Mase says as he takes a step closer to me.
I can feel his heat, and my body instantly reacts to him.
Don’t be a coward Ryan, just reach out and touch him.
His brown eyes turn from a hard brown into a molten chocolate as we stand a mere step apart from each other.
Our breathing is labored and rapid.
Mason reaches forward and brings his hand up to my chest, but before he touches me, his demeanor changes and he retracts it, dropping it beside his body.
“I can’t,” he whispers as he turns away from me and goes into his bedroom.
My head spins as I close my door and stand completely ashamed in my room.
He doesn’t want me.
Why would he?
I’m broken.

Book description: My uncle abused me.
I was 10 years old when it started.
At 13 he told me I was no longer wanted because I had started to develop.
At 16 I was ready to kill him.
Today, I’m broken.
Today, I only breathe to survive.
My name’s Sergeant Major Ryan Jenkins and today, I’m ready to tell you my story.

“Master would flog me if I did, she won’t be happy when I tell her what happened here.”
“Master?”
“Stella.”
Oh, Master.

About the author: I don’t do ‘normal’.

I’ve found that the more I write, the more I like being different to other authors. I write in first person, and I love to challenge a reader.
I take the normal and switch it around.
For me, I really enjoy getting a reaction from a reader. So if I can evoke an emotion (regardless of if it’s the emotion the reader wants) then I figure that I’ve done my job as an author I want to be.
I really quite revel in taking people out of their comfort zones and pushing them to read something different.
My genre of writing is, well quite frankly, where ever my mind goes. I won’t label myself because I don’t like sticking to one genre.
My goal with writing is just to take people away from whatever is going on in their lives, even if it’s only for a split second.
I’m a go with the flow sort of person and don’t really take a course of action to get where I am going. I live in the moment and don’t usually worry about tomorrow because whatever life is due to bring me, I’ll be happy to accept.
I love my family and friends and will help anyway I can if someone needs it. I really don’t like people that are nasty just because they can be, I don’t believe that’s necessary, I mean life’s hard enough as it is!
I hope you enjoy my books, I’ve had a hoot writing them. There’s more to come…..
Til next time.

Blog Tour: Shattered Veil (The Diatous Wars, #1) by Tracey E. Banghart

Shattered Veil is a winner in the NA Sci-fi/Fantasy Genre!

When everything that defines you is stripped away, who do you become?

It’s starts off slow, but not boring. We’re slowly introduced to the world and characters which helps once you go further into the story. The author created a completely organic story that makes it practically impossible not to be sucked in.

Aris was a wonderful and well-developed character. At first, she can come across as immature and childish but as the story progressed you really saw some growth. It was one of the things that made Aris such a believable character.
She decided to give up her hole life, her identity for someone she cared for. And although it wasn’t so well thought out, she had good intentions and incredible strength.

Milek… he’s a book boyfriend to look out for. He was extremely patient as he and Aris begin to form a bond. There was a subtle romance but Aris wasn’t ready for a relationship and it would have felt forced if the author pushed them together so quickly. I definitely see something in the future but for now, I’m content with where their relationship is.

Book description: For Aris, a talented wingjet pilot, war means sacrificing everything: her home, her name, her face—and the one promise she swore she’d never break.

In the small village of Lux, everyone flies wingjets, but nobody flies them like Aris Haan. When she’s not dancing through the skies, she’s spending every minute with Calix, whom she’s loved since childhood. They plan to Promise, but instead he is sent to defend their dominion against a bloody invasion. Determined not to lose him, Aris follows, joining an underground network of women inside the male-only military. Using secret technology that allows her to pass as a man, she becomes “Aristos”, a Flyer in a search-and-rescue unit.

As Aris grows stronger on the battlefield and more comfortable in her guise as Aristos, her personal mission becomes less and less clear. When she and her enigmatic commander, Major Vidar, uncover an astonishing conspiracy that could destroy everything, she must make a choice that will determine not only the fate of her heart, but the future of her dominion.

About the author:Tracy E. Banghart is a cheesy movie–loving, fantasy football–playing (go Ravens!), globe-trotting Army wife who began “practicing” her craft at the age of five, when she wrote her first story. She loves visiting the international friends she met while pursuing her MA in Publishing and spends a portion of every summer at her family’s cabin in Canada, where she finds inspiration and lots of time to relax on the dock. She lives with her husband, son, two lazy dogs and one ornery cat. When not writing or spending time with her family, she is on a mission to bake the perfect cupcake.

Blog Tour: Peaceful Genocide by J.A Reynolds

Peaceful Genocide was different… in the best way possible. From page one I was hooked!

This story was fresh and original. Everything could have been meh and the concept alone would have still kept me interested.

I loved how fast paced it was and how easily I was able to connect with all the characters.
Mitzi was a great heroine, but really paranoid (and for good reason). She had me wanting to look over my shoulder! It also broke my heart to read about everything she went through. However, she was a strong, sassy character that was really soft and vulnerable once you got past her tough exterior.

Deuce, on the other hand, couldn’t have been more different. Unlike Mitzi, he used his gifts to enhance his life.

These two characters don’t connect from the beginning but, as time goes on, they do begin to forge a friendship.

The blurb mentions Mitzi and Deuce but there were many more characters that were wonderfully developed and added to the story in their own way.

The book starts off slowly, but still engaging, and once you really get beneath the surface things getting exciting and intense. It was hard to tear my eyes away.

I definitely recommend it to those who love a fast-paced, original story!

Book description: Seventeen-year-old Mitzi and Deuce can recall how many drops of water were on a leaf from a rainstorm five years ago and conversations from last week, month, or year. They have the ability to remember every second of everyday—since birth.

This gift has blessed Mitzi with a history of being sexually assaulted by researchers and abused by her own parents. She trusts no one. Likes no one. Deuce, however, is a high school standout. His gift has made him a superstar on the football field and his memory promises him endless opportunities.

When they both end up at an Alzheimer’s research facility under false proviso, they quickly realize this place isn’t what it seems to be. They endure crazy military-style tests, are forcefully drugged, and complete real-life simulations that haunt them.

Mitzi and Deuce have no idea what the researchers want to do with them or their memories. But one thing is clear: the researchers will go to any lengths to get what they want.

About the author: JA Reynolds lives in the Midwest with a normal family, raising a normal daughter, with some abnormal pets. It’s extraordinarily ordinary.
